Last December, we received and installed a new 729 nm laser system in the lab to access the “clock” S1/2 --> D5/2 transition of the Ca-40 ion that will enable the generation and manipulation of a quantum bit. The system comprises a tapered-amplified 729 nm diode laser and a high-finesse cavity that provides a laser linewidth in the order of few Hz.
