On 5 December we have observed again the fluorescence signal from laser-cooled 40Ca+ ions in the 7-T open-ring Penning trap after implementing a new system in the beamline. This system comprises a copper structure attached to a two-stage cold-head system in order to carry out cryopumping around the trap volume. In the very first test, we were able to observe an increase in the storage time by a factor of 10 with respect to the previous situation. We expect to increase the storage time further within the next days.
